Northstar Church Of The Arts
Guiding Light in The Heart of Downtown Durham
We are a church founded upon the principles of worship through the performing and visual arts. Located at 220 W. Geer St. in downtown Durham, North Carolina, We are an interfaith spiritual community welcoming all people regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. We believe the creative arts offer an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God and each other.
The church located on the corner of Geer And North Street in Durham was built in 1930 to serve the deaf and hearing impaired community, Northstar Church continues in the tradition of serving the spiritual needs of the underserved through appreciation, performance and practice of the arts.
Northstar’s mission is to create community at the intersection of spirituality and creative practice. We offer sacred space for creative expression, spiritual exploration and cross-cultural collaboration. Disproportionate numbers of black, brown and others have been pushed out of the city center in the name of progress. Part Of NorthStar’s mission is to hold space for all people to pray and play in downtown. In light of sweeping changes in Downtown Durham the need for a creative spiritual space is needed now more than ever.

and theater performances.
